A 6-Step Application Program

Our lawn fertilizing program is a 6-step application process using organic-based fertilizer. The program includes two preventive crabgrass treatments, broadleaf weed control (dandelions, clover, ground ivy, and more) throughout the season, and a grub preventive applied in early summer. We always start with organics and only escalate to stronger products when truly necessary, reducing overall pesticide use.

Each application is vital to maintaining a healthy, green lawn. It provides nutrients to the turf while also feeding the soil microorganisms that keep your lawn thriving long-term. A healthy lawn starts with healthy soil: well-maintained pH levels and an appropriate amount of organic matter. Each round of fertilization is spaced roughly 6 weeks apart, and during every visit we spot spray to control unwanted weeds. Some hard-to-control weeds may require follow-up treatments.

Depending on the weather, the program begins in March or April and concludes in October or November. We're always happy to go over proper watering techniques and maintenance tips for your specific turf.

Soil Testing and Why It Matters

We recommend having a soil sample taken and diagnosed to understand your lawn's current condition. A soil test provides a lab analysis of soil structure, pH levels, and fertility levels, and gives us clear recommendations for any corrections needed. If pH levels are too high or too low, nutrients get locked up in the soil and become unavailable to the roots. A simple correction can lead to a dramatically healthier, more sustainable lawn.

Soil testing should be done every 2 to 3 years. For new customers or lawns that have been in decline, we highly recommend starting with a soil test so each application in your program is working as effectively as possible.

Additional Services

These services complement your fertilizer program and can be added at any time.

Core Aeration

A machine pulls plugs from the soil to reduce compaction and thatch, increase oxygen, and improve nutrient and water flow in the root zone. Best done late August through early October.

Overseeding

Every 2 to 3 years we recommend overseeding the entire lawn to make it more dense and full, and fill in any thin or bare spots. Done in conjunction with aeration for best results.

Lime Application

Lime strengthens the structure of the grass and can improve color. The proper amount is essential for maintaining or correcting soil pH. Based on your soil sample, lime may be applied in spring and/or fall.

Soil Amendments

Incorporating organic matter into the soil to improve conditions for established lawns, new growth areas, and overseeding jobs. Better soil means better results from every application.
